The danger of a single story | Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Watch the following video and consider the importance of knowing the stories of those who you are advocating for in your Australian Marist Solidarity project.

Key questions: How can you make the story of the young people in your selected Asia Pacific country known and loved? Why is this so important?
"All of these stories make me who I am. But to insist on only these negative stories is to flatten my experience and to overlook the many other stories that formed me. The single story creates stereotypes, and the problem with stereotypes is not that they are untrue, but that they are incomplete. They make one story become the only story."
Preferential option for the poor

Watch the following video and consider the importance of solidarity and honoring the individual stories of those people you are helping.

Key questions: In what ways does Australian Marist Solidarity offer a preferential option of the poor? What else needs to happen beyond education?
You are not making a gift of what is yours to the poor man, but you are giving him back what is his. The earth belongs to everyone, not to the rich.
